Nepal’s top trekking routes in one epic journey

  • Post author:

Nepal is like a treasure box full of giant mountains and tiny villages and long trails that never end. Some places there feel like they are not from earth. The sky is too close. The wind is too clean. People are too kind. If you like walking and feelin alive, this is the place you go. I have been to Nepal 3 times. Every time, I do one trek. Then last time, I did all 3 in one trip. one epic journey. Crazy? yes. Is it worth it? 1000%. Let me tell you the story.

Unique overview – why combine these 3 treks?

Annapurna circuit shows the face of Nepal. It’s long, high, deep, green, dry, old, and wild. It’s the full menu.

Everest three pass is a test of leg and lungs. hardest, but the reward is a crazy view and pride.

Pikey Peak is quiet, humble, but gives you soul healing. less crowd, more peace. Sir Edmund Hillary gave the best Everest view from here. I believe him.

You do all 3, you see the big picture. You taste the full flavor of Nepal. This is not just a trek. This is something else.

Annapurna circuit – the big loop

I started the  Annapurna Circuit Trek from Besi sahar. The bus ride was bumpy like an earthquake. I hold my seat tight. but reach safely. The first step of the trail feels normal. hot. dusty. but nice. kids wave. buffalo on path. every 10 min i say namaste. legs fresh, heart open. After a few days, the trail climbed. The green jungle turns to pine. waterfalls everywhere. I stayed in a tea house with a view of a big cliff. sleep like a rock. The food is dal bhat. always dal bhat. but it was good. fill your belly and keep goin.

then reach manang. 3500m. Here I will stop for 2 nights. rest, hike nearby, drink ginger lemon tea. The air is thin but clean. The movie house plays the Everest movie. I watched with 3 trekkers. We were all cold but happy.

from manang, the trail goes up to thorong la pass. I woke up at 4am. dark. wind bite face. I walk slowly, like a snail with dreams. 5416m is high. The brain feels dizzy. but I reached the top. The prayer flag dances like crazy. The sun rises behind the peak. I cried a little. no shame.

down to muktinath. holy place. fire from water. old temple. people chant. I feel at peace. The trail goes through jomsom, marpha, tatopani. marpha apple pie is the best on earth. I ate 3 slices. no regret.

last stop ghorepani. climb 3000 steps to reach. leg scream. but the view from Poon Hill the next morning – wow. sky pink, mountains gold. like a dream.

The annapurna circuit is a long story. it got all chapters – forest, desert, river, snow, pain, joy. I finished it with a different person.

Everest three pass trek – the mountain test

I took the bus to Salleri. skip lukla flight. cheaper and more raw. bus ride 12 hours of butt pain. but experience, bro.The first few days were quiet. Not many tourists go this route. I stay in a village with a family who gives me free tea. They smile more than any rich person I see. trail go to phakding then up to namche.Namche is like a city in the sky. café, wifi, bakery. I ate a cinnamon roll and sent a selfie to mom. She says I look skinny.

After namche, the trail goes left, not base camp. The first challenge is kongma la pass. no lodge near. I carry instant noodles and prayer. hard climb. trails disappear. only cairn and guess. I walked with one Israeli guy. We both curse the wind. reach the top. look back. everything white, sharp, real.next stop lobuche. then a quick visit to base camp. crowded. rock and flag. not as magic as i imagine. but ok.

Then cho la pass. more ice. slippery like soap. I fell once. elbow hurt. no blood. continue. After passing, the trail goes down to gokyo. The lake is blue like the eyes of a goddess. I sat by the lake for 1 hour. no sound. only wind.last pass – renjo la. Best view of Everest. better than base camp. I am alone at the top. no other human. I scream “WOOOOO” and echo “come back like a mountain “.Then the trail goes down to Thame, then back to Lukla. I will fly this time. The plane is small, scary. but I’m alive.

Everest Three Pass Trek  is a beast. hard on the body. but the reward is insane. I feel like I have conquered something big.

Pikey peak – the hidden gem

Last trek. My body is tired but my heart wants more. I heard about Pikey Peak Trek . not famous. not crowded. perfect. I took a jeep to Dhap. ride long. talk with the driver the whole way. He says he used to be a monk.start walking from dhap. The trail is soft. pass through forest and village. rhododendron everywhere. red, pink, white. birds sing. The trail smells like earth after rain.First night in japre. small village. one tea house. Grandma cooks for me. best dal bhat ever. spicy and warm.

The next day, I walked to Pikey base. trail lonely but not scary. The only sound is footsteps and wind in the trees. I met a guy from France. We walk together. talk about life, mountain, love. deep stuff.wake at 3am to climb pikey peak. cold. The sky is full of stars. like god spill glitter. reach the top before sunrise. sit on a stone. Then boom – the sun rises behind himal. Golden light touches Everest, lhotse, makalu, even kanchenjunga far far away.I cried again. Yeah, I cry a lot in Nepal. but that’s okay. mountains make the heart soft.

walk down slowly. pass lamjura, then to junbesi. an old monastery there. I sat inside while the monk chanted. I don’t understand words. but feel peace. deep peace.pikey peak not long. not hard. but very deep. like whispering from a mountain. It heals me.

Doing all 3 treks in one journey – the experience

I spent 2 months in Nepal. do these 3 treks back to back with rest in between. cheap lodge, simple food, cold shower. but rich in soul. Some day my leg hurts so bad I wanna quit. But I wake up, see snow peaks from the window, and forget the pain.

I learn to live slowly. walk slowly. eat slowly. talk slowly. The world moves fast, but mountains say “relax bro”.I meet people from 30+ countries. an old man from japan doing a trek alone. A girl from Mexico drawing a mountain in a sketchbook. A German couple making tea for everyone. We all walk the same path, but with different stories.

what to know if you wanna do this

  •  bring a good boot. not fashion. real trekking boot.
  • walk slowly. altitude don’t care how strong u think u are.
  • eat dal bhat. best food in the mountains.
  • drink ginger tea. help for cold.
  •  respect the locals. they smile, u smile back.
  • don’t rush. view not run away.
  •  pack light. You carry your house on your back. Be smart.
  • bring a flip flop for the tea house. trust me.
  • don’t just take photos. Take a moment.

Food on the Trails

Dal Bhat – rice, lentils, curry – you eat it almost every day. And it’s true what locals say: “Dal Bhat power, 24 hours.” In Annapurna you get more variety – yak cheese, fresh vegetables in lower parts, even pasta in some places. On Everest, food is more simple, because carrying supplies is hard. In Pikey, you might get homemade bread, potatoes from the field, butter tea.

Eating here is part of the trek. You sit, you warm your hands around a bowl, you share space with strangers who feel like friends.

How It Stays With You

When you finish, you might think it’s over. But walking Annapurna, Everest Three Pass, Pikey Peak – it stays. The smell of pine in lower valleys, the sound of yak bells, the crunch of snow under boots, the thin wind at passes, the morning light on peaks – they come back to you when you least expect.

Sometimes when you’re in a busy city far away, you close your eyes and see prayer flags dancing in the cold air. That’s when you know the Himalaya has a place in you now.

final words

I left Nepal with dust on my boots, a sunburned face, a sore knee, and a full heart. The annapurna circuit shows me the beauty of variety.Everest three passes show me the power of challenge.pikey peaks show me peace of silence.Together, these 3 treks give me something more than adventure. They give me memories that live forever.

If you are thinking of going to Nepal, go. don’t wait for the perfect time. There is no perfect time. only the mountain waiting.walk the trail. breathe the air. feel the land.let nepal change u like it changed me.
