Top 5 Water Sports to Try in Dubai for Thrill Seekers

There are very few places in the world that are as versatile as Dubai. You think of something, and Dubai will already have it. They even have a ski resort located inside the Mall of the Emirates, while most of Dubai is surrounded by desert.

Since Dubai is the land of unusuals (not called officially, though), you can expect a lot of watersports and other such activities that are not commonly found in a country where there is dust and sand all around it.

I visited Dubai a few weeks ago, and being the adrenaline junkie and water lover that I am, I made sure not to skip any type of watersports there. If you are planning to go on Dubai holidays anytime soon and want to test your mettle in the world of watersports, here are the different ones that you can try.

P.S: If this is your first time traveling to Dubai, I would suggest checking out some Dubai holiday packages so the logistical part of your journey is taken care of.

My Favorite Watersports in Dubai

The reason I have placed this activity at the top of my list is the unlimited amount of adrenaline it brings along. Here is your perfect chance to become a superhero version of yourself by simply flying above the sea. Don’t get carried away; superheroes can do much more than that!

You are given a water-propelled flyboard with a 20 meter long hose that can propel you up to 9 meters (that’s 30 feet in the air). The board works in such a way that you are constantly propelled upwards, making it easier for you to maintain your balance. However, it still requires a lot on your end.

I failed miserably when I tried it for the first time, but my second time was much more fun as I got the hang of things.

Wakesports

As I traveled in the winter months, I had the chance to try out the famous wakesports in Dubai. You can go for wakeboarding or wakesurfing with the apparatus connected to a boat. The boat’s wake creates motion that lets you move in the water.

You might have seen various movies and TV shows with such kinds of things. The professionals even perform various kinds of stunts and tricks, but I would suggest that you don’t try any such thing. There are many watersports facilities in Dubai that offer such sports. The experience is closely monitored by professionals on the boat, so there are no chances of any unfortunate event happening.

If the above description seems too much for you, I would suggest that you try something slower. A stand-up paddleboard ride at Kite Beach is much more relaxed and the best experience for beginners.

Kitesurfing

Another watersport that I tried and would love to recommend to all my readers is kitesurfing. Kite Beach is the place where you need to go if you want to try it out. This sport is particularly for the fitter types, as it requires some physical strength as well.

You have to hold a handle that is connected to a parachute, and you have to navigate it to control the speed and direction.

Another similar type of activity is parasailing. The main difference between the two is the former has a board and the latter has a parachute. This is much easier than the one I discussed above, as you don’t have to do too much on your own because the boat will do most of the work. At your end, you just need to hold the handle on the apparatus.

Jet Skiing

This one is the most common watersport in the world, and in Dubai you will find the best jet skis. There are plenty of companies that offer jet skiing in Dubai. I will let you know about the one that I used: Nemo WaterSports.

They offer three different types of rental packages, and each of them is accompanied by a qualified instructor on your back. The reason I selected Nemo was that they offered the lowest prices and best services. I took their one-hour tour rental, but you can go with a thirty-minute or two-hour plan as well.

If you are looking to try your luck at the fastest jet ski in the world, Dubai has that as well at FIVE watersports. However, it is a costly affair and can make a huge dent in your overall budget. But as they say, passion has no price. Make your call wisely.

Kayaking

You might be thinking why I am only discussing mechanized watersports. Well, they have their own charm (speed). Among the different non-mechanized watersports I tried, kayaking at the Hatta dam was the best. This dam is located only a 90-minute drive away from Dubai and is home to various activities. I would suggest you plan a day trip there due to the various things to do there.

The dam is engulfed by the Hajar Mountains, something that is quite rare to find in Dubai. Once you decide to go in the water, you will be provided a boat, an oar, and life jackets. There are lifeguards all around the place, so you don’t have to worry about anything.

This is also one of the cheapest watersports in Dubai, as the rentals start around only 60 AED. Don’t bother bringing your own equipment, as you are only allowed to use one rented from the dam.

Wrap-Up

There are plenty of other watersports that I tried during my trip, but Deep Dive Dubai especially deserves a mention. And not to forget, diving with sharks and exploring underwater marine life.
